Out of the mouths of babes

Picture the scene..... Mummy helping her dear 7 year old boy to do some homework. He wants to join the school gardening club and has to fill in a form to say why. One of the questions was "What would you do first if you joined the club?"....... I asked my son and his reply was

"I would dig a tunnel out"....

Not alot you can say to that is there?
Although I had visions of the Great Escape Film....

In other news my Sister and her friend are planning a Fairy Ball , so I have to plan a Fairy Cotume for next May... Cant wait, it just HAS to be PINK !!!!!!!

Out of the Mouths of Babes

My six year old son was watching a game show tonight where the contestant had won one thousand pounds. He comented that this was alot of money so i asked him,

"What would you buy if you had one thousand pounds?"

He said, "I would buy us a caravan to go on holiday"

He is such a cutie

Medieval Battle Grounds and sewing.

My son wanted these pictures to be put onto the blog. I think that I have said before that he is not all that interested in craft type things and prefers to make up elaborate role play games. He does like to draw and colour in pictures but his attention for such things is short lived. Well imagine my surprise the other day when he came to me and showed me this picture,

Little Toadstool Fairy Houses in an Enchanted Woodland.
I was even more surprised when he asked for some fabric and thread when i was sorting through some materials. He works better when he is left alone and joins in when he is ready but i never through the day would come when I saw him with a needle and thread in his hand and it was his own idea. It was difficult to get the picture any better as many of the threads are pale in colour and so dont show up, however it is a dog under the moon. This was sewn freehand and all his own work.

These two pictures are taken in his room (after a tidy up) he took them himself and show what he was playing with at the time. He has a military camp set up at one side of the train track and the other shows a Medievel Battle Ground. I said that he had an elaborate imagination when it comes to playing.

Holidays and craft stashes.

It is finally the end of term and I have two whole weeks at home with my own children and no work. Please dont get me wrong, I do love my job but there are days when I ask myself what on earth am I doing. I guess it is the same with any job. Anyhow it will be nice to spend some quality time with my children..

On the crafting side of things, er it is moving S-L-O-W-L-Y... I am still knitting the cardigan for my daughter and to be honest I am growing tored of it. I dont always undertsnad what the pattern is saying and it is in my nature to get cross with it, especially when there are other things I am wanting to get on with. I shall finish it, oh yes I will. I would show you a picture but honestly how exciting can a half knitted front of cardigan be?

Have a look at thie gift from my Hubby, isnt it wonderful? Ok well I like it. I had spotted it but would not normally buy myself something like this so he decided he would do it for me.

I think that I will put it up in the bedroom as it will surely be a magnet for grubby little fingers to touch.

Now when I am in re-arranging mode I tend to organise things around where the craft stash can be stored. When he bought me this I said it would be perfect to store craft things and this was of course met with roars of laughter. When it arrived yesterday my Daughter proudly declared that "It is a good place to put your craft things Mummy", shows you how much he knows.....

Stories and Sunshine

Today has been a much needed day off work, i am looking forward to the end of the week when we start our two weeks holidays. I think that the children could do with the break also. We have so many things that we would like to do but just dont get the time to do it with school and various after school clubs. We have managed to get the after school clubs down in numbers which is good but I am sure that it wont last. This next picture is just to prove that the sun can shine in England, how wonderful it is to feel the heat of the sun eventhough it is through glass and not to mention the gale force winds that are blowing outside.

Big sister is on a school trip until late this evening so we made the most of a little time just the two of us, he is using a wildlife magazine to help him draw a swan. I didnt get a picture of it, he loves to draw but soon gets tired and moves on to something else. He has mountains of energy and I find it hard to get him to burn it this time of the year. When he comes home from school he just want to run around and play but with the weather it has been hard to get him outside in the garden.

I managed to get a couple of frames over the weekend to put the cross stitch pictures in,

I like to have a stash of drawing materials for the children to help themselves to whenever creativity strikes them. Please note however that this is only a VERY SMALL amount of their craft stuff, it is literaly all over the house and garage. Pens, pencils, play doh, paint, paper, books and every other craft thing you can imagine fills every nook of the house.

I wanted to show you a story book that my son has made, it is "The Story's of the Twins" and apparently is a 4 in 1 story book (I will show you one)

One day two twins were playing passies on the beach. Then they,

saw a boat coming towards them.

After that they raced eachother.

In the end it started to rain.

THE END....

I am sure that it will become a classic story to be heard by many many generations to come. Passies is his choice of words and not mine however it didnt feel right to stop his creative outburst by pointing out to him that it didnt really make sense.

Go Team

On Friday we took the children to their first ever Basketball Game, they had so much fun. My son could hardly sit in his seat he was so excited. He soon learned all of the supporting chants to encourage the team (thankfully they were suitable for little ears unlike the Football.... ). It was so nice to see him enjoying himself as normally he wouldnt like the noise or some other excuse. I certainly think that his confidence is improving.... YAY !!!!! My Daughter said that she enjoyed it but I dont really think that it would be her normal choice of entertainment but she enjoyed having some time out as a family which is quite a rare thing at times.

Next time we are going to go to the Ice Hockey match. Now this is something that I have always wanted to go to. I have no idea what the rules are but I am sure it will be fun.

The Birthday Weekend

It started today with a very excited girlie who is now NINE !!!!! Goodness how time flies. She is now a proud owner of a pair of "Heelys" , truly awful things if you ask me but then again I am not nine and so therefore am unlikely to understand that "Everyone has them".... To celebrate the day we headed out to a local Italian for dinner with friends. We have a Ten Pin Bowling party planned for Friday and Saturday is a family party, my task this evening was to make sure that the party bags were filled and ready to be taken out with us bowling.
Anyhow I thought it would be fun to tell you nine things about my daughter,

* She is a complete girlie girl..Pink, teddy bears, fluffy girlie stuff you get the idea.

* I love the way she has so many Teddy Bears and dolls on her bed that there is literally no room for her. She has been like this since very young and the bears are known as "The Bedtime Gang".

* When she goes horse riding and falls off she gets back on without complaining and continues to ride even if she has tears in her eyes. This is her choice certainly not mine. I want to rush over and take her away from the nasty horse !!!!

* She is a complete thrill seeker. If she is tall enough to get on the ride you can bet she is waiting to go on it. Rollercoasters, Pirate Ships or any other kind of ride that sends Mummy for cover..

* She loves school and always tries super hard. She reminds me of the character Matilda in the Roald Dahl book.

*I had to laugh the time I went to check on her in bed and she had been to the nursery christmas party that day. Here she was lying in bed perfectly with her party hat on. She reminded me of the Queen or a princess. She was three. Wish I could have taken a picture without waking her up.

* She is not afraid to get dirty and go into the garden and help dig the vegetable patch, although she needs her brother to remove any worms or slugs. Isnt that what little brothers are for?

* She is on the School Recycling Commitee, and boy do we take this seriously. I can see her been quite the green activitst when she is older.

* When she is a grown up her plans are to be a Teacher Monday to Friday and a Vet at the weekend. So she cant be afraid of hard work.

Here she is somehwere on this ride, there was no way I would ave gone on there. This was taken in November and a friend of my sisters was brave enough to take her on. He needed a little time afterwards as he felt so ill, she thought it was great.

Little Chef

I had to tell you about my Little Chef. This is my Six year old little boy who has nicknamed himself " Little Chef". His greatest claim is that he has eaten in Rick Steins Bistro in Padstow Cornwall and the person he admires most from the tv is not infact Ben 10, although he is pretty cool, it is yet again Rick Stein. My son loves to cook and bake and when he is after a little special time for himslef he likes to go to the Seafood Deli on our sea front and have a look at the fish. The people who work there will get live crabs and lobsters for him to have a look at. When we were in Cornwall on holiday his Daddy took him deep sea fishing, now picture this.

The boat was full of MEN and afew kiddies but Litle Chef was by far the youngest at aged 5. The sea was rough and the boat was going up and down and lots of the MEN looked rather queesy. His Daddy was thinking "Oh Dear, he aint gonna like this" but no my little fella stood there like a real MAN and took it in his stride. He had no problems with fishing and caught his own fish, he took them off the hooks himself and lets just say that he knew what to do with them as he was going to be bringing them back to shore. He even helped Daddy to gut and clean them. there was a man on the boat who didnt catch a thing and my five year old gave him some of his own catch to take back home.

I think he has a genuine love for cooking and ingredients, he is always in the kitchen looking for was to help and can list the ingredients needed for many of the dishes that we cook. His speciality are "Little Chef Sandwiches" he can make these without any supervision really and gets everything he needs and off he goes. Watch out Rick you have some competition.

Remember

Sunday was Remembrance Sunday, in years gone by I would always go with my Gran for her to leave her poppy for her brother who was killed in the war.

Now whilst I certainly dont forget the day and would have normally attended church his year we did not. We decided to take the morning off and we went to the climbing wall for a little family time. I still cant get used to watching my children free climb up a wall (with no ropes) which is about 5 metres high. There is of course a HUGE instructor waiting for them at the bottom and should they decide to exit the wall he is more than capable of catching them. It was so nice to be together as a family and be out doing an activity, sooooooooo I have decided that we need to make more of the time we have together doing something nice rather than the trip to the supermarket for the weekly shopping or trying to get some kind of order around the house.

For the next few weeks I hope to put some posts together about the things we have been doing, it could be anything from chilling out to watch a movie with popcorn or a walk along our beach on a really cold day or even me trying to come to terms with the fact that my children can climb this wall and will do it even if Mother is sat with her nerves on edge. Oh and yes they think it is great to trun around at the top and give me a wave as if to remind me that they are 5 metres up. eeeekk!!!!!!!

5th November

Remember remember the fifth of November,

Gunpowder, treason and plot.

I see no reason why gunpowder,

treason Should ever be forgot...

Bonfire night came and went, I used to hate it as a child as the fireworks were so loud. It is my Sisters Birthday so there was always another reason to celebrate it. "Happy Birthday" by the way. Bonfire night always holds memories of the huge bonfire in the field at the back of our house, Jacket Potatoes coking at the bottom of the bonfire and of course people calling "Penny for the Guy" but you dont seem to get people calling with a Guy. I think that we have gone down the Halloween route here and have forgotten some of the older traditions. I bet that there will be lots of kids who have no idea what "Penny for the Guy " means, mine included.

Anyway we decided that we would go and visit friends and perhaps my little one would not "FREAK OUT " when he was in other company. Well he did us proud, we have gone from the little boy who had a major melt down at the mear mention of fireworks to the little boy who would stand at the patio doors, with fingers in ears (just in case!!) and watch. He even held a sparkler which is again a big deal for him, I took a photograph of him doing this so that next year when we hear the all too familiar whine "I dont like fireworks" it can be whipped out as lasting proof that he DID actually enjoy himself. Hehe........

So it is now the weekend and I have just left work and can put my feet up and not hear he sounds of "Miss, he said this" or "Miss, she hit me" and the tug at the arm of my clothes to get my attention. Although having two children and a husband I guess there is still plenty of whining in this house. It is just so nice to get o the weekend to spend some quality time with our own children and leave work at the school gates for Monday (although I must confess that I LOVE my job).

I hope that like the christmas tree on the top of the blog, it is far too early to decorate the house yet but as there are no pine needles to pick up in blogland I thought I would decorate the blog. This is just the start and I have other decorating plans for the next couple of weeks. Have a fab weekend whatever you are doing, if I can get the camera to work on this computer I will get some photographs put on here for you to look at.

GOD Bless

The Tooth Fairy has visited

I nearly forgot to mention that last week my dear son lost his very first tooth. He has been so excited to have his very own lose tooth, he has seen his sister loose teeth and be visited by the tooth fairy bu this one was all his. As last week was half term and the children were off school we helped out at the church holiday club, well on the Friday he came running up to me holding his mouth with one hand and a tooth in the other. He didnt care that his little mouth was bleeding all he was concerned about was that he is now a Big Boy (he is 6 you know) as his tooth had fallen out. He took great delight in leaving that tooth under his pillow at bedtime and was soon asleep with the anticipation of a visit from the tooth fairy. I guess he will never forget where he was when he lost this tooth, he had such a fun time at church that day.

Harvest Festival

Today was the Harvest Festival at my sons school...... OOOOOOh such a proud Mummy!
He got up and said his many lines and never looked uncomfortable at all. When he had finished he gave me the thumbs up and had a HUGE smile, he said that he had really enjoyed himself.
This is the child who would never leave my side and would cry every day going into school despite the fact that he was in his second year at school. I think that we have turned a corner and a confident little boy is emerging. YAY !!!!!! We are so proud of you son.... Love You!
