Autumn Days.

Do you remember singing this when you were at school ? I do and I used to love it, I enjoy it more now hearing the sweet voices of my children as they sing and hum the familiar childhood verses.. I am loving Autumn, I love the smells and taste of the damp air and the sound of crisp dried leaves beneath my feet. I think that along with winter and its promise of Christmas, Autum must be one of my favourite seasons of the year. Which is yours?

Autumn days, when the grass is jewelled
And the silk inside a chestnut shell
Jet planes meeting in the air to be refuelled
All these things I love so well

So I mustn’t forget
No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
I mustn’t forget.

Clouds that look like familiar faces
And a winter’s moon with frosted rings
Smell of bacon as I fasten up my laces
And the song the milkman sings.

So I mustn’t forget
No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
I mustn’t forget.

Whipped-up spray that is rainbow-scattered
And a swallow curving in the sky
Shoes so comfy though they’re worn out and they’re battered
And the taste of apple pie.

So I mustn’t forget
No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
I mustn’t forget.

Scent of gardens when the rain’s been falling
And a minnow darting down a stream
Picked-up engine that’s been stuttering and stalling
And a win for my home team.

So I mustn’t forget
No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
I mustn’t forget.

I don't remember that song. Perhaps i'd know it if i heard it.

I don't think i have a favorite season. I like the warmer summer days with the lighter evenings but then i also like the cold winter days with the dark evenings and cozying up in front of the fire. Autumn leaves, spring lambs, i like it all.

I love that song too!

But I don't know what my favourite season is - probably Spring. But there is something special about them all!

We sing that song at the school where I work and the kids love it.

Autum is also my favourite season. I love the way the air feels different, it smells tired and worn out, the shadowns become longer as the sun gets lower. the morninngs a chilly but often bright and clear and the afternoons are surprisingly warm. I just love it, the sights, sounds and smells of Autumn make me smile.

Beautiful poem, but I don't think I've ever heard it...
Autumn is probably my favourite season too, with longer, darker nights and a fire in the fireplace...lots of time to knit and sew, harvesting potatoes and carrots from my garden- but also long hikes into the mountains to find the sheep and bring them back home... and then salting and drying meat to prepare for our traditional Christmas dinners...starting to make gifts for Christmas...lots of joy!
Have a lovely Autumn:-)

Hello! Just popping in from Aunt Ruthie's forum and saying hello!

"Hello!"

Autumn is my favorite time of year too. Unlike many, I get the itch to clean my house from top to bottom instead of doing so in the Spring. There is something about having the windows open and letting the fresh air in and the smells that Autumn brings!

We are still having some warm days in this part of the country (Kentucky) but the nights are nice and cool and require a blanket at night - so nice.

I will have to look up the song on Youtube as Marit found and listen to it...what a lovely memory.

Love and God's Blessings,

oh i remember the song very well. And the whole school used to really sing loud on the 'say a great big thankyou!' bit. It was always one of my favourite assembly songs.

I have come here via GreenTwinsMummy's blog and am very happy to have found my way over.
